Methanol is a clear liquid commodity chemical that is produced from natural gas and is also produced from coal, particularly in China. Traditional chemical demand, which represents approximately 50% of global methanol demand, is used to produce traditional chemical derivatives, including formaldehyde, acetic acid and a variety of other chemicals that form the basis of a wide variety of industrial and consumer products.
