CVS Health Corp[CVS] said demand for Covid-19 vaccinations has fallen by about 30% recently as Americans’ hesitancy to receive the shots outweighs expanding eligibility and access. The healthcare sector said the pharmacy chain had administered more than 17 million shots, which are now available at more than 8,300 U.S. locations. Just as the rivals, CVS begun offering walk-in and same-day appointments for injections in a bid to improve uptake.CVS Health Chief Executive Officer Karen Lynch said, “We have kind of passed the wave of people who really wanted to get it and who signed up. There is a part of the population that says, ‘I’m only going to get it if it’s easy and convenient and if I happen to be in a place where I can get it.’ There are other populations where people are just afraid.” She further added, “Stepped-up education on the vaccine’s safety and efficacy alongside improved access are needed to address both issues.”The company said CEO Ms. Lynch was considering and citing data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to speak about the drop-off in vaccine uptake. When the inoculation of vaccines had begun in the U.S, the medical association had certain restrictions on who could receive a vaccine. There was also a problem of short supply of doses. Both of these reasons prevented many people from getting shots. Now, many parts of the country are reporting excess doses and unfilled appointments even as fewer than 60% of American adults have received at least one dose.
