Facebook Inc apologized on Friday to its users for the second global outage of its services this week as Instagram and Messenger were affected for two hours.
The company again blamed a faulty configuration change for the outage and confirmed that Instagram, Messenger and Workplace were impacted.
Sincere apologies to anyone who wasn't able to access our products in the last couple of hours, the company said. We fixed the issue, and everything should be back to normal now.
After the services were up again, Instagram thanked its users on Twitter for their patience and “for all the memes this week.”
Some users were not able to load their feeds on Instagram during the outage on Friday and some were not able to send messages on Facebook Messenger.
Earlier Outage
The social media giant had another global outage this week on Monday when its social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger were impacted.
The company blamed “configuration changes” for the outage which lasted for nearly six hours.
The outage was the longest for Facebook since 2008 when its site was offline for about a day, affecting about 80 million users. Currently, Facebook has around 3 billion users.
Whistleblower
The outages come when a whistleblower on Sunday accused Facebook of prioritizing its own profit over public’s safety.
Frances Haugen, the former product manager on the civic misinformation team at Facebook, had aided Wall Street Journal on its report on Instagram’s negative impact on mental health of teenagers.
