• Employees can delay return to office for three to five months in the U.S. and Canada
• This comes amid increasing Covid-19 cases globally and spread of the new variant, Omicron
Facebook-parent Meta Platforms Inc said on Tuesday it will fully reopen its U.S. offices at the end of January, but will also give employees the option of delaying return as late as June.
The company’s “office deferral program” is designed to offer flexibility for the workers planning to return to office, a spokesman said. The company had also offered working remotely full-time to its employees.
This comes amid increasing Covid-19 cases globally and spread of the new variant, Omicron. Many companies including Ford Motor Co and Alphabet have delayed return-to-office recently.
In recent months, Meta’s offices have reopened at headquarters California at a limited capacity. The deferral program is for employees who want to delay return to office for three to five months in the U.S. and Canada.
The company, which has more than 68,100 full-time employees globally, requires workers at the U.S. offices to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
“For those wishing to return in January we look forward to providing a vibrant office experience that continues to prioritize health and safety. We also recognize that some aren’t quite ready to come back,” Janelle Gale, a vice president of human resources at Meta, said.
