World outrage against what the West describes as Russia's war crimes continued to grow as the invasion of Ukraine entered the third week on Thursday amid mounting civilian casualties.
The latest to bear the brunt of President Vladimir Putin's brutal attack was a hospital in the southern city of Mariupol where an airstrike targeted a hospital, killing at least three people, including a child, CNBC reports.
Moscow denies targeting civilian areas.
The report citing Ukrainian officials said the airstrike hit the hospital while the country's top two diplomats met for highest-level talks since the invasion began on February 23.
Progress slowed
The unexpected resistance has slowed the progress of the Russian forces on several fronts, including the outskirts of capital Kyiv.
Ukrainian officials say that the offensive stalled for longer than expected and the supply lines thinning out across long distances, the Russian military has intensified air attacks targeting civilian areas. The worst may be yet to come for the people of Ukraine as the economy of its bigger neighbor is crippledby sanctions. Washington has expressed concern the Kremlin might deploy chemical and biological weapons against the people of Ukraine.
Daylong cease-fire
Ukrainian officials claimed their attempts to evacuate civilians from battered towns along seven safe corridors were affected by Russian shelling. About 35,000 civilians were able to escape Wednesday during a daylong cease-fire in six areas around the country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
According to CNBC, the port city of Mariupol was among those listed for evacuation but has been bombarded by constant shelling and airstrikes, including two reported on Thursday morning by the national police.
