• The war will make women more vulnerable to sexual violence and exploitation
• About 80,000 women will give birth in the next three months in war-torn Ukraine
As Russia continues to wage war against Ukraine, two million refugees have fled Ukraine, most of them women and children.
While the economic damages of war are being measured, the social and psychological trauma the population faces will have incalculable lasting impacts.

The worst sufferers are women. As inequalities are magnified, and social networks break down, women will be more vulnerable to sexual violence and exploitation.
UN's comments
On Friday, in an interview with CNBC, Sima Bahous, executive director of U.N. Women, said that women and girls are particularly vulnerable to sexual and gender-based violence during conflict and loss of access to healthcare, education, and food, water and sanitation.
"...We see also that women are not only victims in crisis, but they are also carrying their families, their communities and their nations, from fragility to stability, if we only give them the space to do so," Bahous told CNBC.
The International Rescue Committee said that about 80,000 women will give birth in Ukraine within the next three months. Many women won't have access to critical maternal health care if the conflict disrupts essential services.
On Wednesday, Ukraine accused Russia of war crimes after Russia's attack on children's and maternity hospital in Mariupol.
