Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) and Lyft Inc (NYSE: LYFT) scrapped mask mandates for riders and drivers in the US Tuesday as Covid-19 cases fall in the country.
Uber had introduced mask mandate for its drivers and riders in May 2020. The ride-hailing company said riders will have the option to cancel their trip if they feel uncomfortable with revocation of the mask mandate.
Lyft also ended requirements such as vehicle windows to be kept open and the front seat to be left empty and said health safety reasons will no longer appear under cancellation options on its app.
Walt Disney Co (NYSE: DIS) also said wearing masks would be optional for fully vaccinated visitors at its indoor and outdoor locations and transport facilities. Disney recommends visitors who are not fully vaccinated to continue wearing masks.
A federal judge in Florida on Monday said the Biden administration’s Covid-19 mask mandate for public transportation is unlawful and that the CDC does not hold the power to issue population-wide preventive public-health measures including the mask mandate.
