Russian soldiers in the now-occupied Kherson area are trying to defend the key ground line of communication that the Ukrainians have threatened, said the Institute for the Study of War in a report.
Ukrainian forces launched a coordinated counter-offensive against communities on the eastern bank of the Ihulets River, which is extremely near to a critical route aiding Russian forces farther north.
But “Ukrainian forces are likely still close enough to the highway to disrupt its use as the main supply route, potentially undermining the Russians’ ability to hold against Ukrainian counter-offensives from the north,” the report said.
Russian milbloggers are expressing increasing concerns about the danger of Ukrainian counteroffensives in places where Russian forces have deprioritized while concentrating on Severodonetsk.
