• Sistema PBO manages burger chains’ operations after McDonald’s left Russia
• New name of burger chain has not been approved yet
McDonald’s Corp’s (NYSE: MCD) Russia business’ new logo will feature a hamburger and two potato fries, as the burger giant “de-arched” its local operation after Moscow’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
After more than three decades in Russia, the world’s largest burger chain in May said it was selling its restaurants in Russia to Alexander Govor, one of its local licensees.
Sistema PBO currently manages the burger chain after McDonald’s left Russia.
The logo was revealed by a local company as it was unveiled for an advertising campaign ahead of its official reopening on Sunday, Russian news outlet Tass reported.
The trademark will depict the main symbols of the former fast-food giant: two sticks of yellow fried potatoes and a yellow-orange burger, a Sistema PBO spokesperson told Tass.
“The logo’s green background symbolises the quality of products and service that guests are used to.” the spokesperson said, adding that the name of the new chain has not been approved yet.
Govor is aiming to reopen all restaurants in two months and expand to 1,000 locations from around 850 now.
Last Thursday, Moscow’s anti-monopoly service, which approved the takeover, said McDonald’s, whose symbol is a giant M, known as the Golden Arches, retains the right to repurchase its Russian restaurants within 15 years.
