• Chinese smartphones accounted for 42% of Russia's smartphone sales in May
Sales of Chinese smartphones have risen rapidly in Russia after manufacturers such as Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Samsung paused new sales.
Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi, Realme and Honor accounted for 42% of Russia's smartphone sales in May 2022, versus 28% during the same month last year, reported Reuters.
Samsung lost its spot as the market leader, with 14% of devices sold versus 28% last year, and Apple's share dropped to 9% from 12%.
In early March, Apple and Samsung exited the Russian market. Russians stockpiled imported smartphones and other electronics. Consumer spending on electronics surged by 40% in the first week of March compared to the February average.
Russia has the third-highest smartphone adoption rate in the world. Apple and Samsung accounted for almost half of smartphone volume in Russia, before the war.
