• Review focuses on the extent to which staffers worked on her personal projects
• Sandberg earlier announced to leave Meta this fall
Lawyers are investigating Meta Platforms Inc’s (NASDAQ: META) departing chief of operations Sheryl Sandberg and her use of company resources over several years, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Facebook-parent Meta has interrogated several employees concerning the probe, the report said, adding that the investigation has been underway since last fall.
The report said the social media giant is scrutinizing Meta employees’ support of Sandberg’s foundation, Lean In, and towards writing and promoting her second book, “Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy”.
The book was focused on her grieving process following the sudden death of her husband, SurveyMonkey CEO Dave Goldberg, in 2015.
Earlier in June, Sandberg, who helped Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg power the growth of the world’s biggest social network, announced that she was leaving the company after 14 years.
Chief Growth Officer Javier Olivan is set to take over as COO. However, Zuckerberg said he did not plan to replace Sandberg’s role directly within the company’s existing structure.
Sandberg said she would continue to serve on Meta’s board after leaving the company in the fall.
