AT&T Inc (NYSE: T) and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE: VZ) said on Friday they would gradually lift self-imposed restrictions on their 5G network expansion near some airports over the coming year.
This comes after the wireless companies had earlier this year agreed to delay deployment of 5G service at towers near some US airports after several airlines raised the issue that flights would be severely impacted due to 5G.
The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday regional airlines can retrofit the sensors most susceptible to interference by the end of this year.
The FAA is seeking to upgrade other sensitive radar altimeters by July 2023.
