The Russian defense ministry announced on Wednesday that Russian and Turkish delegations have agreed to continue negotiations for safe vessel departures and grain exports from Ukrainian ports, Reuters reported.
Together, Russia and Ukraine produce about a third of the world's wheat. Ukraine is a major exporter of grain, barley, sunflower oil, and rapeseed oil, among other commodities.
Due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, grain supplies have slowed and tonnes of grain have been stranded in silos at the ports.
The US earlier accused Russia at the United Nations Security Council of using food as a weapon in Ukraine.
Ukrainian grain exports plummeted 55.5 % to 777,000 tons in the first 20 days of June compared to the same period in 2021 said the agricultural ministry.
According to the data, the volume comprised 689,000 tons of corn, 63,000 tons of wheat, and 21,000 tons of barley.
