Russia claims it destroyed two US-made advanced rocket system in Ukraine
- Moscow says it destroyed two ammunition depots and a radar station for a Ukrainian-operated S-300 air-defense system
Russia's military forces destroyed two advanced US-made HIMARS missile systems and their ammunition dumps in eastern Ukraine, said the country’s defense ministry on Wednesday.
“High-precision air-based missiles have destroyed 2 U.S.-made Himars multiple-launch rocket launchers and 2 ammunition depots near Malotaranovka in Donetsk People’s Republic,” the ministry said in the statement.
The ministry further claimed that a radar station for a Ukrainian-operated S-300 air-defense system, as well as a base holding foreign mercenary units, were destroyed in the Mykolaiv region's Limany area.
The US announced it will send eight HIMAR systems to Ukraine, with some coming in the last two weeks.
Western armament supplies have been critical to Ukraine's efforts to repel tens of thousands of Russian troops that invaded Kyiv on February 24.
Moreover, the United Kingdom also said that it will provide Ukraine with multiple-launch rocket systems capable of striking targets up to 80 kilometers (50 miles) away.
