• Tesla sold about 78,000 Shanghai-made vehicles in June
Tesla’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) China sales in June rose by 142% compared to a month ago according to preliminary estimates released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on Wednesday.
The US electric car maker sold about 78,000 Shanghai-made vehicles last month. In May it sold 32,165 vehicles and exported 22,340. The June sales numbers are up 135% from a year ago, the CPCA added.
The surge came after China began easing COVID-related restrictions after months of lockdowns in major cities, and as it makes efforts to boost car sales to support growth.
According to the CPCA, Tesla's cumulative wholesale volume from the Tesla Gigafactory 3 as of the end of June is close to 905,000, including roughly 606,000 in the past 12 months.
Sales of electric cars accounted for 27% of the total in June and increased 130.8%, CPCA added.
Tesla has also accelerated production at its Shanghai factory. In a statement last week, the company said the issues Tesla faced in the early months of the quarter are now mostly behind it.
