More than 40 nations have signed a political statement pledging to collaborate in prosecuting Russian war crimes in Ukraine.
The vow to combine international efforts to bring Russia's armed troops to account came on Thursday, when countries signed a political declaration at the International Criminal Court (ICC) headquarters in The Hague.
The signatories also agreed to contribute €20 million ($20 million) to the International Criminal Court and the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office.
“The simple truth is that, as we speak, children, women and men, the young and the old, are living in terror,” ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan said.
With about 23,000 war crimes being examined and multiple nation’s leading investigating teams in Ukraine, officials stated that evidence must be trustworthy and organized, Al Jazeera.
“Meaningful justice can only be achieved if we work together. Today we commit to set a new standard for cooperation, strengthening our efforts towards accountability globally,” Khan said during the Ukraine Accountability Conference at the Hague.
