Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the US will provide four more high-mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS) to Ukraine.
“Later this week, we’ll roll out our next presidential drawdown package of weapons, ammunition, and equipment for Ukraine,” Austin said in opening remarks at the fourth Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
“It will include four more HIMARS advanced rocket systems, which the Ukrainians have been using so effectively and which have made such a difference on the battlefield. And it will include more rounds of MLRS and artillery ammunition,” he said.
HIMARS has a greater range and is more accurate than Ukraine's previous Soviet-era artillery.
The current supply will raise the total number of HIMARS delivered by the US to Ukraine to 16.
Since the start of the war, the US has contributed $8 billion in security aid.
