UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, awarded Zelenskyy with the Sir Winston Churchill Leadership Award, highlighting similarities between the two leaders in times of crisis.
Zelenskyy received the award via video connection during a ceremony in Johnson's London office attended by members of the Churchill family, Ukrainian Ambassador Vadym Prystaiko, and Ukrainians trained by the UK military.
“It was an honor to present my friend President @ZelenskyyUa with the Winston Churchill Leadership Award today,” Johnson said in the award ceremony. “In that moment of supreme crisis, you faced a test of leadership that was, in its way, as severe as Churchill’s challenge in 1940.”
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy thanked UK for its extreme support and said “this award is yours, too. This showed our joint leadership - Ukrainians, British, and everyone who will never give up freedom to some tyrants, no matter what weapon they use against us.”
“The price of freedom is extremely high. But still, it is incomparably higher for those who gave it up…...we are defending. We are fighting. Just like during the terrible trials of the XX century,” Zelenskyy said.
