Russia's Supreme Court has designated the Azov regiment which was officially absorbed into Ukraine's army, as a “terrorist organization.”
"To satisfy the administrative motion of the prosecutor general and to recognize the Ukrainian paramilitary unit Azov as a terrorist organization, banning its activities on the territory of the Russian Federation," the judge read out the decision, Russian news agency Tass reported.
The far-right and ultranationalist regiment has been one of the most visible Ukrainian military forces battling Russia in eastern Ukraine.
Members of the terrorist group designated by the court are criminally liable. Founders and leaders will face 15 to 20 years in prison while ordinary participants face 5 to 10 years in prison, the report said.
