Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hopes for direct discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping so that china could utilize its power to put a stop to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy told the South China Morning Post that Ukraine has pursued discussions with China from the beginning of the war.
“I would like to talk directly. I had one conversation with [President] Xi Jinping that was a year ago,” he said. “Since the beginning of the large-scale aggression on February 24, we have asked officially for a conversation, but we haven’t had any conversation with China even though I believe that would be helpful.”
According to the United Nations Human Rights Office, at least 5,327 people have been killed and 7,257 have been injured since the war.
“I’m sure that without the Chinese market for the Russian Federation, Russia would be feeling complete economic isolation,” Ukraine’s President said in a 40-minute interview over Zoom.
