Walmart Inc (NYSE: WMT) has held talks with multiple media companies to include streaming services in its membership service, the New York Times reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
Executives from Paramount, Walt Disney Co (NYSE: DIS) and Comcast Corp (NASDAQ: CMCSA), which operate several major streaming services, have in recent weeks spoken with the US retail giant, the report said.
Walmart+ membership costs $12.95 per month and includes free shipping on orders, fuel discounts, and a six-month subscription to Spotify’s (NYSE: SPOT) premium music streaming service.
The retailer is increasingly looking to build its relationship with its customers beyond the footprint of its big-box stores, particularly given the dominance of Amazon.com Inc’s (NASDAQ: AMZN) Prime membership program.
