Ukraine urges the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations to send delegates to where Russia is detaining Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs).
The request comes in response to prior claims made by Kyiv that Russian soldiers had tortured and killed detainees, including by exploding a bomb at a Ukrainian PoW camp in Olenivka in late July.
“The armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out targeted artillery shelling of a correctional institution in settlement of Olenivka, Donetsk oblast, where Ukrainian prisoners were also held,” the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a statement.
Moscow said more than 50 Ukrainian servicemen were being detained and accuses Ukraine of bombarding the facility.
