New Zealand deploys 120 military personnel to the United Kingdom to assist in preparing Ukrainian soldiers for front-line warfare.
During the weekly news conference on Monday afternoon, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern disclosed the deployment.
10,000 Ukrainian soldiers will be trained in weapon handling, first aid, and military law by two infantry training teams.
“New Zealand has been clear that we will continue to answer the call of Ukraine for practical support as they defend their homeland and people against Russia’s unjustified invasion,” Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said at the conference.
In the next three weeks, the soldiers will go to the UK, where they will return at the end of November.
“We know that one of the highest priorities for Ukraine right now, is to train its soldiers, and New Zealand is proud to stand in solidarity alongside a number of other countries to answer that call,” Ardern said.
Defence Minister Peeni Henare said the training will be conducted exclusively at one of four locations in the UK and our NZDF personnel will not enter Ukraine.
