Putin confirms willingness to help IAEA conduct inspection in nuclear plant after Macron’s call
- Russian side indicated its readiness to give the agency inspectors the required assistance, says Kremlin
Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the Russian presence at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
“President Macron once again emphasized his concern over the risks that the situation at the Zaporizhzhia plant poses to nuclear safety and security, and expressed his support for sending a mission of IAEA experts to the site as quickly as possible, under conditions approved by Ukraine and the UN,” according to an Elysee Palace readout of the call.
“The Russian President indicated his agreement to the deployment of this mission and the terms that were discussed.”
According to the Kremlin, the Russian side indicated its willingness to give the agency inspectors the required support
Putin “stressed that the systematic shelling by the Ukrainian military of the territory of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant creates the danger of a large-scale catastrophe that could lead to radiation contamination of vast territories”.
