US Justice Department is in the early stages of drafting a potential antitrust complaint against Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL), Politico reported on Friday, citing a person with direct knowledge of the matter.
The report said DoJ has not made a decision on whether to sue Apple, but the department’s antitrust division hopes to file suit by the end of the year.
The suit would be the latest legal move besetting the biggest tech companies in the US, two years after federal regulators and multiple states filed antitrust cases against Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google and Facebook, which changed its name to Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ: META).
Moreover, it would be the DoJ’s first antitrust suit against one of the tech giants during President Joe Biden’s administration.
