Moderna Inc (NASDAQ: MRNA) sued Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE) and BioNTech SE (NASDAQ: BNTX) alleging that the companies have copied its Covid-19 vaccine technology that Moderna developed years before the pandemic.
The lawsuit was being filed in US District Court in Massachusetts and the Regional Court of Dusseldorf in Germany.
Moderna had patented mRNA technology between 2010 and 2016, a lot earlier than the emergence of Covid-19. The company alleges that Pfizer/BioNTech copied its mRNA technology without permission.
Moderna and Pfizer were the two Covid-19 vaccines that got approval in the US early in the pandemic.
