ST LOUIS (AP) — ST LOUIS (AP) — Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) on Thursday reported first-quarter net income of $268.5 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the St. Louis-based company said it had net income of $1.68. Earnings, adjusted to account for discontinued operations, came to $1.69 per share.
The coal mining company posted revenue of $1.36 billion in the period.
Peabody Energy shares have dropped 11% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has increased roughly 6%. The stock has decreased 8% in the last 12 months.
