Oscar González Rocha has been the President of Southern Copper Corp (SCCO) since December 1999 and its Chief Executive Officer since October 21, 2004. He has been a member of the company's Board of Directors since November 1999.
He has been serving as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Americas Mining Corporation since November 1, 2014 and the Chief Executive Officer and director of Asarco LLC (a U.S. integrated copper producer), an affiliate of the Company, since August 2010.
Previously, he was the Southern Copper Corp's President and Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer from December 1999 to October 20, 2004. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Grupo Mexico since 2002. He was Chief Executive Officer of Mexicana de Cobre, S.A. de C.V. from 1986 to 1999 and of Buenavista del Cobre, S.A. de C.V. (formerly Mexicana de Cananea, S.A. de C.V.) (formerly Mexicana de Cananea S.A. de C.V.) from 1990 to 1999.
Gonzalez Rocha received a degree in civil engineering from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico.

Recognition
Gonzalez Rocha has been recognized as the 2015 Copper Man of the Year and was inducted into the U.S. Mining Hall of Fame in December 2016 in Tucson, Arizona and the Mexican Mining Hall of Fame in October 2017 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
He was an alternate director of Grupo Mexico from 1988 to April 2002.
