Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his nightly video address that the Russian death toll in the battle might reach 40,000 in June.
“Russian generals see their people simply as the cannon fodder they need to gain an advantage in numbers — in manpower, in military equipment, Zelenskyy said.
“And this means only one thing: Russia can cross the line of 40,000 of its lost troops already in June. In no other war in many decades have they lost so much.”
The Ukrainian president again emphasized his country's need for advanced air defense systems from the West.
He said that such defenses may have prevented several disasters, including an air strike on Ternopil on Sunday that left ten people hospitalized, including a 12-year-old child.
