Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said two Britons and one Moroccan were sentenced to death on Thursday for committing crimes in the so-called Donetsk People's Republic.
Lavrov said: "At the moment, the trials you mentioned are being held based on the legislation of the Donetsk People's Republic, because the crimes in question were committed on the DPR's territory," Reuters reported.
Aiden Aslin, Shaun Pinner, and Saaudun Brahim fought alongside Ukrainian forces until surrendering to Russian forces a few weeks ago.
The DPR is recognized internationally as part of Ukraine, and much of it remains under Ukrainian sovereignty.
Meanwhile, The UK is prioritizing talks with Ukraine over talks with Russia about the two British nationals condemned to death in the DPR.
