The United Kingdom's defense ministry in its intelligence report said Russia's defense sector may struggle to fulfill the needs of the Ukrainian war, due in part to the impact of sanctions and a lack of competence.
The First Deputy Chairman of Russia's Military-Industrial Commission predicted that state defense spending will increase by 600-700 billion roubles (GBP 8.5 -10 billion), which could approach a 20% increase in Russia's defense budget.
“Russia's production of high-quality optics and advanced electronics likely remain troubled and could undermine its efforts to replace equipment lost in Ukraine,” the MoD said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, Russia's major operational effort in the Donbas remains the assault on the Severodonetsk pocket, and its Western Group of soldiers has likely achieved moderate advances in the Kharkiv area for the first time in several weeks.
