The UK Ministry of defense in its intelligence report said Russian soldiers now occupy the majority of Severodonetsk after more than a month of hard warfare. Russia's urban combat tactics, which rely heavily on artillery, have caused widespread collateral damage throughout the city.
Elements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as hundreds of civilians, are taking refuge in underground bunkers at the Azot Chemical Plant in the city's industrial zone, the MoD said adding that Russian forces would most likely be stationed in and around the facility
This will most certainly prohibit Russia from re-tasking these forces to other tasks for the time being.
“It is highly unlikely that Russia anticipated such robust opposition or such slow, attritional conflict during its original planning for the invasion,” the ministry said in a tweet.
