Ukrainian soldiers in Severodonetsk must surrender or face execution, said a commander of the separatist Donetsk Peoples Republic (DPR) in eastern Ukraine.
“They have two options: either follow the example of their colleagues and give up or die,” said Eduard Basurin, deputy head of the People's Militia Department in the DPR, Russian state media outlet RIA Novosti reported.
“They don't have any other option," he added.
The separatist leader told on media outlets, that Ukrainian fighters in the city are now stuck after the city's only bridge in and out was destroyed yesterday.
Approximately 70% of the Severodonetsk is under Russian control.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier said fighting for control of the city of Severodonetsk, may determine the fate of the country's war with Russian forces in the Donbas.
“This is a very fierce battle, very difficult. Probably one of the most difficult throughout this war,” Zelenskyy said.
