At least 4,731 civilians have been killed since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine while believed that the actual figure is likely to be far higher.
"Civilians continue to bear the brunt of the hostilities. As of this week, we have documented more than 10,000 people who have been killed or injured, among them 4,731 people killed," Matilda Bogner, the head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, said on Wednesday at the release of a new report on the human rights situation in Ukraine.
According to the UN Human Rights Office, there have been 10,631 civilian casualties throughout Ukraine, with 4,731 killed and 5,900 injured.
She said that these estimates are based on documented events and that the true figures are "considerably higher."
Bogner said that the majority were caused by explosive weapons with a large effective area, “many of which are inherently indiscriminate when used in populated areas increasing casualties and devastating humanitarian impacts.”
