Around 18 killed in Russian strike on apartment building in Chasiv Yar
- 27 people are believed to be trapped beneath the wreckage of a building in eastern Ukraine
At least 18 people were killed and others were injured after series of rocket launches by Russian forces hit a building in the eastern Ukrainian town, Chasiv Yar.
The strike, which began late Saturday, demolished three buildings in a residential district of Chasiv Yar, Donetsk region.
“As a result of a missile strike… 18 people were killed, six people were rescued from the rubble, about 137 tonnes of destroyed elements of the house were cleared and dismantled,” Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said in a Facebook post.
Chasiv Yar, with a population of 12,000 people, is roughly 20 kilometers (12 miles) southeast of Kramatorsk was targeted by Russian Uragan rockets fired from truck-borne weapons.
Earlier on June 28, at least 19 people were killed when a Russian missile struck a retail mall in the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk.
