At least 5,401 civilians killed since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine while believed that the actual figure is likely to be far higher.
The Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights said “most of the civilian casualties recorded were caused by the use of explosive weapons with wide area effects, including shelling from heavy artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, missiles and air strikes.”
OHCHR recorded 12,867 civilian casualties in Ukraine: 5,401 killed and 7,466 injured
Moreover, 7,254 people were killed in the Donetsk and Luhansk areas. There were 5,907 casualties on government-controlled territory (2,938 killed and 2,969 injured)
There were 1347 casualties in the area held by Russian military troops and allied armed groups (269 killed and 1,078 injured)
Also, other regions of Ukraine under government control recorded 5,613 casualties.
