Around 5,500 civilians killed since Russia invaded Ukraine: UN
- UN Human Rights Office recorded 13,212 civilian casualties throughout Ukraine
At least 5,514 civilians have been killed since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine while believed that the actual figure is likely to be far higher.
The Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights said: “most of the civilian casualties recorded were caused by the use of explosive weapons with wide area effects, including shelling from heavy artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, missiles and air strikes.”
OHCHR recorded 13,212 civilian casualties in the country: 5,514 killed and 7,698 injured.
Moreover, 7,486 people were killed in the Donetsk and Luhansk areas. There were 6064 casualties on government-controlled territory (2,984 killed and 3,080 injured)
There were 1422 casualties in the area held by Russian military troops and allied armed groups (289 killed and 1,133 injured)
Also, other regions of Ukraine under government control recorded 5,726 casualties
