Ukraine is undergoing "brutality" unseen in Europe "since World War II" as a result of Russia's aggression, said NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on the first day of the NATO meeting in Madrid.
“It is extremely important that we are ready to continue to provide support because Ukraine now faces a brutality which we haven’t seen in Europe since the second world war,” said Stoltenberg.
The remarks came after a Russian missile attack on a crowded Ukrainian shopping center that killed innocent civilians.
“Spoke with President @ZelenskyyUa on #Russia's war of aggression. At our #NATOSummit, we will step up support for our close partner #Ukraine, now & for the longer term. #NATO Allies stand with you,” Stoltenberg said in a tweet ahead of the NATO meeting in Spain.
Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy said the Russian strike at a Kremenchuk shopping mall is one of the most "defiant terrorist attacks in European history."
