The UK Ministry of Defense said in its intelligence report that Russian soldiers are likely closing in on Ukraine's second largest power plant at Vuhlehirsk, 50 kilometers (31 miles) northeast of Donetsk.

“Russia is prioritizing the capture of critical national infrastructure, such as power plants,” the MoD said in a tweet.

However, Russia is also likely to try to break through at Vuhlehirska as part of its efforts to regain momentum on the southern pincer of its offensive towards the major city of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s nuclear power plant operator Energoatom said in a Telegram post that the “Russian military had brought at least 14 pieces of heavy military equipment with ammunition, weapons, and explosives to the engine room of power unit No. 1 at the Zaporizhia NPP.”
