The first ship to reach its destination is a Turkish-flagged ship that was one of many to depart Ukraine blocked ports as part of an agreement to free up grain supplies.
The Polarnet, which departed Chornomorsk on August 5 carrying 12,000 tonnes of grain, arrived at Turkey's Derince port in the Gulf of Izmit on Monday.
“First vessel with Ukrainian grain has reached customers in Türkiye,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in a tweet. “This sends a message of hope to every family in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia: Ukraine won’t abandon you.”
“If Russia sticks to its obligations, the ‘grain corridor’ will keep maintaining global food security,” Kuleba said.
For the last two months, the UN and Turkey have been negotiating an arrangement to restore Ukraine's Black Sea grain exports while also facilitating Russian grain and fertilizer supplies.
